In my drawing titled “Narcissus,” I set out to depict vampires as a powerful analogy for narcissists. The imagery centres around the glitching effect around the vampire’s mouth, revealing fangs. This glitching signifies the distorted reality that both vampires and narcissists create around themselves.
As I worked on the piece, I focused on capturing the allure of the vampire’s charismatic and enchanting eyes. Much like how narcissists can draw people in with their charm, vampires lure their victims with their mesmerising facade. However, the glitching effect serves as a visual representation of the underlying darkness that lies beneath the surface.
The fangs, which emerge from the glitching, symbolise the predatory and manipulative nature of both vampires and narcissists. Just as vampires use their fangs to feed off others, narcissists often exploit those around them to satisfy their own desires. The glitching surrounding the fangs illustrates the distortion and deception that these individuals employ to maintain their control over others.
By incorporating the glitching effect, I aimed to convey the warped perspective that narcissists and vampires impose on the world. This distortion reflects their tendency to paint a twisted version of reality, blurring the lines between truth and manipulation. The title “Narcissus” further ties into this theme, referencing the self-absorbed nature of both figures and the consequences of becoming ensnared in their delusional web.
